Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10136) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/71.0.3578.98 Safari/537.36. To elaborate on the risks: On the desktop, a new OS version can come out every 6 weeks (Chrome OS), 6 months (Ubuntu), 1 year (Mac OS), or 2-3 years (Windows). Then you also need to account for OSes released for phones, tablets, gaming consoles, clocks, etc which can have much more frequent release cycles and unpredictable changes in market share. We have a huge collection of over 44.6 million different types of user agents. Look around to find user agents for whatever browser, operating system, device, software type or layout engine you need. If you need to decode a user agent, use the User Agent Parser or the User Agent Parsing API. Software: Facebook App (11,046,925) Chrome (10,497,163). Your User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0; Your User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 1074) AppleWebKit/536.11 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/20.0.1132.27 Safari/536.11; While safari for Windows has 'Windows' instead of.

The User-Agent (UA) string is contained in the HTTP headers and is intended to identify devices requesting online content. The User-Agent tells the server what the visiting device is (among many other things) and this information can be used to determine what content to return. Of course this requires using a device detection solution which translates UAs into understandable software and hardware information.

We go into a lot more detail, and examine what makes up a UA, and how you can use user-agent parsing to your advantage, in our article User-Agent Parsing: How It Works And How Can It Be Used.

User-Agent list for different device types

There are millions of User-Agent combinations given that UAs change with the software and hardware. For example, a Chrome browser on an iPhone 6 will introduce itself using a different UA than a Safari browser on the same phone.

Every device type, including phones, tablets, desktops, may come with its own UA that makes it possible to detect this device for any purpose. Interestingly bots and crawlers also come with their unique UAs.

Here is a list of example User-Agents for different device types that can be detected. If you’d like to learn more on these devices, just copy and paste the UAs to our User-Agent testing tool. You’ll see all the properties of a detected device.

Have you ever been restricted from using a website because you use Chrome? Do you want to test to see what your mobile site looks like on your desktop? All is possible with the User-Agent Switcher Extension.

Even in 2013, many website still require you to use Internet Explorer to access them. However, most of these websites will still function correctly in Chrome. So how do you get past these restrictions?

User-Agent Switcher Extension allows you to change Chrome’s user agent to a wide variety of different browsers, such as Internet Explorer 6 to 9, Firefox, Opera and Safari; including the operating system version. If you want to see what a mobile website looks like, you can switch the user-agent to Android, iPhone and Blackberry.

The extension will update its list of support user-agent, adding new browser versions. You also are given the option to add your own user-agent strings.

I use Chrome OS full time, and I have come across websites which block access because I am not running Windows or Mac OS X. To get around this issue, I created a user-agent option which will change my user-agent string to Google Chrome running on Windows 8.
